CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Shawnee State forward Luke Purpero and Mount Vernon Nazarene goalkeeper Alex Stout are the AMC Men’s Soccer Players of the Week for Sept. 14-20.
Purpero, a 5-foot-10 sophomore from Waverly, Ohio, is the Offensive Player of the Week. He registered two goals and two assists during a pair of victories for the Bears.
Purpero played a part in all three goals in a 3-1 win versus Mount St. Joseph with a goal and two assists. He netted the game-tying goal and later assisted on the winner.
Purpero ended the week by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 decision at St. Catharine. Shawnee State enter this week at 4-1 overall.
Stout, a six-foot senior from Pataskala, Ohio, is the Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in a row.
Stout was credited with seven saves in a 1-0 win over Ohio Dominican. The Panthers entered the match 6-1-1 and receiving votes in the NAIA ratings.
It was the fifth consecutive shutout for Stout. It was also the 31st of his career extending his school record total.
MVNU has won five straight to improve to 5-2 overall.
