Colston leads young All-AMC Team

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Notre Dame rightfielder Charisse Colston has been voted the American Mideast Conference Softball Player of the Year in voting by the league’s coaches and highlights an All-AMC Team dominated by freshmen.

Colston, a sophomore from Bedford, Ohio, helped NDC win its second straight AMC Tournament title. It is the fourth consecutive season that a Falcon has been tabbed conference Player of the Year.

Colston is joined on the First Team by three teammates. The trio includes sophomore first basemen Mallory Harder, freshman third baseman Melissa Dykes, and rookie utility player Ashley Harbarger.

No less than nine freshmen found a spot on the 13-player All-AMC First Team. Six more are on the 12-member Second Team.

AMC regular season champion Shawnee State have two players on the First Team featuring senior pitcher Katie Daniel and freshman catcher Abbey Barrett. The Bears’ Ralph Cole was named AMC Coach of the Year.

Point Park’s Kelsey Robertson is the Pitcher of the Year while teammate Amanda Ardinger is the Freshman of the Year as a left fielder. Both landed spots on the First Team.

Rounding out the top unit are second baseman Dana Brown and pitcher Erin Ebert from Walsh; Carlow shortstop Shelby Rodgers; Malone centerfielder Morgan Heacock; and Mount Vernon Nazarene designated player Kaylee Hewitt.
