CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Shawnee State outfielder Danny Gesick has been named the 2010 American Mideast Conference Baseball Player of the Year after leading the Bears to the regular season championship. He earned the honor in voting by the AMC coaches.
Gesick, a sophomore from Pickerington, Ohio, helped Shawnee State to a 30-29 record overall and a 17-7 slate in the AMC. The Bears’ Ted Tom was tabbed Coach of the Year by his peers after SSU won the league title by one game over defending champion Malone.
Shawnee State placed five players total on the 17-member All-AMC First Team. Also representing the Bears are catcher Philip Butler, first baseman Brian Ramey, shortstop Adam Wamsley, and starting pitcher Austin Dunfee.
Malone has three players listed featuring AMC Pitcher of the Year Jeff Shenker as well as starting pitcher Todd Liberatore and designated hitter Corey Hartong.
AMC Tournament champion Mount Vernon Nazarene landed outfielder Steve Williams and starting pitcher Kyle Barr on the squad.
Three other schools had two players each. That group includes Notre Dame outfielder Pat Ross and relief pitcher Simon Davis; Point Park second baseman Bryce Pfeuffer and third baseman Lee Bodnar; and Walsh shortstop Mike Suliks and outfielder Mark Kelly. Rounding out the first team is Cedarville catcher David Convertini.
Nine players were voted to the All-AMC Rawlings Gold Glove Team. Malone and Walsh secured three spots each.
