CANTON, Ohio - First a state champion. Now a national champion. Malone University junior Justin Lower can lay claim to both after shooting an even-par 71 Friday to finish with a 4-under 280 at the NAIA men’s golf championship, taking the individual title by six strokes.
The Northwest High School graduate became the second Pioneer to earn medalist honors at the NAIA tournament, joining his coach, Ken Hyland, who did it in 1969. Lower also was Ohio’s Division II winner in 2006.
"This one is a lot bigger. It means a lot more," Lower said. "State is just state. It’s the furthest you can go in high school. This is as far as I can go in college. It feels good."
