CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Houghton College and Ursuline College lead the charge of 55 athletic squads from the American Mideast Conference selected 2009-10 Scholar Teams by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Houghton had the most teams honored with 10 - six women’s and four men’s. However, Ursuline, who touts a women’s only athletic program, had all nine of its teams recognized.
Thirty-eight (38) total women’s teams from the AMC are on the list. Leading the way with the highest GPA is Roberts Wesleyan’s women’s tennis team at 3.77 which rates fourth in the country out of 857 total. The top 44 teams nationally are all female.
The #1 AMC men’s unit out of 17 honored belongs to Cedarville in men’s golf with a 3.56 GPA. That number is third in the country among all male programs.

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.
