Malone shortstop Scott McIlvain

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Malone shortstop Scott McIlvain and Cedarville righthander Matthew Willett have been selected the AMC Player and Pitcher of the Week in baseball for games played on March 9-15. They are the first athletes recognized for the 2009 campaign.

McIlvain, a 5-foot-10 senior from Alliance, Ohio, batted .571 to lead Malone to a 7-4 week at the Russmatt Greater Phoenix Invitational. He hit safely in all 11 games by going 21-for-38 at the plate.

McIlvain totaled two doubles, five walks, seven RBI’s, 15 runs scored, and eight stolen bases. He ran his career hits total to 215 to surpass the school’s all-time record of 210. Malone is 11-4 overall.

Willett, a 6-6 junior from Xenia, Ohio, fired a complete-game three-hit shutout to beat Point Park, 8-0, in the AMC opener for both schools.

Willett struck out seven and walked two in seven innings while improving his season record to 3-1. Cedarville is 11-8 overall.
