CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Mount Vernon Nazarene College teammates Darcee Hoberg (Coshocton, OH; River View H.S.) and Andrea Rudd (Wilmington, OH; Wilmington H.S.) are the AMC women's volleyball Players of the Week. They earned the recognition after leading the Cougars to the AMC tournament championship with a 3-0 record and the #1 seed in this weekend's NAIA Region IX Tournament.

Hoberg, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, averaged 4.27 kills per game including 20 kills in the AMC title match against Malone in which MVNC rallied from an 0-2 deficit. She posted a .279 attack percentage, averaged 5.36 digs, and served up seven aces with a career-high five aces in the championship tilt. Hoberg ranks sixth on the Cougars' career kills list (1,315) and is seventh in digs (1,355).

Rudd, a 5-foot-9 setter, averaged 14.18 assists and 2.91 digs in the three victories. She recorded a .929 serve percentage with four aces and handed out 67 assists in the final match versus Malone. Rudd is just 89 assists shy of setting a new MVNC single-season record.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Saint Vincent College outside hitter Stephanie Szabo (Freedom, PA; Ambridge H.S.) and Ohio Dominican College setter Nicole Schoener (Hilliard, OH; Davidson H.S.) have been named the AMC Players of the Week in women's volleyball.

Szabo, a 5-foot-8 senior, averaged 3.88 kills and 3.88 digs in leading Saint Vincent to a 3-0 week in AMC play. She posted a .454 attack percentage, a .969 passing accuracy, and added seven service aces with seven blocks.

Schoener, a 5-5 junior, averaged 11.54 assists in pacing ODC to a 3-1 week. She did not commit a service error in 62 attempts and also supplied 4.38 digs per game for the Panthers.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Mount Vernon Nazarene College outside hitter Amanda Schumm (Rockford, OH; Parkway H.S.) and Cedarville University setter Lori Bunger (Cambridge City, IN; Lincoln H.S.) are the AMC Players of the Week in women's volleyball.

Schumm, a 5-foot-10 junior, averaged 4.38 kills with a .359 attack percentage in leading the Cougars to three AMC wins. She recorded 13 kills in a three-game sweep at Walsh in a match involving first-place teams. She had 30 digs in three matches, did not commit a passing error in 26 attempts, and served up five aces with a .976 accuracy.

Bunger, a 5-foot-9 junior, averaged 13.67 assists to pace Cedarville to a 4-0 week. She added 4.0 digs and 1.42 kills per game, a .952 serving accuracy with four aces, and a .492 assist percentage.

Kelly Watt, Malone College (player)
Andrea Rudd, Mount Vernon Nazarene College (setter)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Malone College outside hitter Kelly Watt (Beloit, OH; West Branch H.S.) and Mount Vernon Nazarene setter Andrea Rudd (Wilmington, OH; Wilmington H.S.) have been named AMC women's volleyball Players of the Week.

Watt, a 5-foot-7 junior, averaged 3.93 kills per game to lead Malone to a 4-0 week and the NCCAA East Region championship. She supplied 3.60 digs, served up 10 aces, and posted a .254 attack percentage. Watt was voted to the all-region squad for the Pioneers, who knocked off Mount Vernon Nazarene and Roberts Wesleyan, two teams ranked in the NAIA Region IX Top Five.

Rudd, a 5-foot-9 junior, averaged 11.50 assists and 2.29 digs per game as MVNC split four matches. She totalled 12 kills and served six aces with a .969 accuracy. Rudd was voted to the All-NCCAA East Region squad.

Nicole Jackson, Malone College (setter)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Cedarville University middle hitter Heather van der Aa (Bloomington, IL; Calvary Baptist H.S.) and Malone College setter Nicole Jackson (Willard, OH; Willard H.S.) have been selected AMC Players of the Week in women's volleyball.

van der Aa, a 6-foot-2 junior, put together three successive 14-kill efforts to lead Cedarville to three AMC victories which extended their overall winning streak to ten straight. She averaged 4.67 kills per game with a .400 attack percentage. She also supplied nine blocks and a .933 passing percentage for the Yellow Jackets.

Jackson, a 5-foot-6 junior, averaged 13.89 assists per game in leading Malone to wins over the top two teams in the AMC. She handed out 58 assists in a four-game victory against Canton rival Walsh and then came back with 67 assists in a five-game win over Mount Vernon Nazarene which ended the Cougars' 27-match conference winning streak. Jackson added 31 digs, seven kills, and a .943 serve percentage during the two wins.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Shawnee State University middle hitter Melissa Holland (Chillicothe, OH; Chillicothe H.S.) and University of Rio Grande setter Jessica Wheeler (Piketon, OH; Piketon H.S.) have been selected the AMC Players of the Week in women's volleyball.

Holland, a 6-foot-2 junior, averaged 3.17 kills with a .414 attack percentage during the Bears' 4-3 week. She hammered 14 kills without an error in 16 attempts in a sweep of NCAA Division II Concord WV. Her .875 attack percentage in the contest ties the second-highest NAIA mark ever recorded for a single match. Holland added weekly totals of 32 blocks, 59 digs, and 17 service aces. She tied the school record with 10 aces in a win over Ohio Valley.

Wheeler, a 5-foot-8 sophomore, averaged 5.5 assists with a .369 assist percentage in Rio's two-setter offense to lead the Redwomen to a 3-2 week. She had a perfect serving accuracy in 74 attempts with seven aces to go along with 32 digs, 21 blocks, and 13 kills.

Amanda Benedetti, Saint Vincent College (setter)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Ohio Dominican College middle hitter Kathleen Thomas (Cleveland, OH; Padua Franciscan H.S.) and Saint Vincent College setter Amanda Benedetti (Greensburg, PA; Hempfield H.S.) are the AMC women's volleyball Players of the Week.

Thomas, a six-foot senior, averaged 5.2 kills with a 3.43 attack percentage while becoming ODC's all-time kills leader. In six matches, she committed only one serving error in 186 attempts for a .995 accuracy. Thomas added 72 digs and 15 blocks for the Panthers, who went 5-1 for the week and finished as the runner-up at the Tiffin Invitational. She now has 1,765 kills which surpassed the previous record of 1,654.

Benedetti, a 5-foot-5 freshman, averaged 12.2 assists during Saint Vincent's 3-0 week which included a pair of AMC victories. She handed out 49 assists in a four-game win over Shawnee State and added 38 more in a sweep of Rio Grande. Benedetti supplied 19 kills without an error in the three matches and had 32 digs.

Kim Slone, Malone College (player)
Andrea Rudd, Mount Vernon Nazarene College (setter)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Malone College outside hitter Kim Slone (Plymouth, OH; Willard H.S.) and Mount Vernon Nazarene College setter Andrea Rudd (Wilmington, OH; Wilmington H.S.) are the AMC Players of the Week in women's volleyball.

Slone, a 5-foot-6 senior, averaged 4.18 kills and 4.0 digs per game to lead Malone to a 3-0 week including a pair of AMC wins. She commited just one passing error in 46 attempts for a .979 percentage and served up six aces in 11 games.

Rudd, a 5-foot-9 junior, averaged 12.26 assists per game during Mount Vernon Nazarene's 4-2 week which included a 2-0 AMC mark. She added 3.0 digs and recorded a .929 serve percentage in 98 attempts. Rudd set a school record with 71 assists in a five-game setback to NAIA No. 24 King TN as the Cougars finished second in their own invitational.

Lindsey Wilt, Walsh University (setter)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- University of Rio Grande middle hitter Andrea Brown (Williamsport, OH; Westfall H.S.) and Walsh University setter Lindsey Wilt (Bucyrus, OH; Galion H.S.) are the AMC women's volleyball Players of the Week.

Brown, a 5-foot-11 junior, averaged 4.05 kills with a .383 attack percentage during Rio's 4-1 week. The performance included a runner-up showing at the Centre Invitational in which she was named to the all-tournament team. Brown added 17 blocks, 42 digs, and served at a .982 accuracy with just one error in 57 attempts.

Wilt, a 5-6 freshman, averaged 8.80 assists with a .440 percentage in three matches for Walsh which included a pair of AMC road victories. She added 28 digs, eight kills, and five service aces. Her highlight of the week was 53 assists and 18 digs in a 3-1 victory at Cedarville. Wilt averaged 11.14 assists and 3.14 digs against AMC competition.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Mount Vernon Nazarene College outside hitter Amanda Schumm (Rockford, OH; Parkway H.S.) and Cedarville University setter Lori Bunger (Cambridge City, IN; Lincoln H.S.) are the first American Mideast Conference volleyball Players of the Week for the 2000 season.

Schumm, a 5-foot-10 junior, guided MVNC to a 4-0 week including a pair of AMC victories. She averaged 2.22 kills per game with a .528 attack percentage. Schumm did not commit a passing error in 26 attempts and was also perfect in 22 serves.

Bunger, a 5-foot-9 senior, averaged 12.0 assists per game during Cedarville's 5-1 week which included a runner-up showing in their own invitational. She posted a .975 serve percentage in 80 attempts and averaged 3.32 digs while being selected to the all-tournament team.
