CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene forward Kenny Chaffin (Marysville, OH; Marysville H.S.) has been named the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-6 senior averaged 19.7 points and 8.3 rebounds while leading MVNC to three AMC victories which extended their winning streak to six.

After opening with 19 points in a 88-72 win at Urbana, Chaffin came back with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 98-88 overtime win at Cedarville where the Cougars rallied from 17 points down in the second half. He finished his week with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks in a 96-89 victory over NAIA Division II No. 20 Shawnee State.

In three games, Chaffin shot .550 from the field and .722 at the line with 25 rebounds, seven blocks, five steals, and one assist. He now has 1,956 career points.

(February 4-10)
Ben Holt, Walsh University
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Walsh forward Ben Holt (Galion, OH; Galion H.S.) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-6 senior averaged 27.3 points and 7.7 rebounds as the NAIA Division II No. 19 Cavaliers took over sole possession of first place in the AMC with three wins.

Holt began the week with a career-high 33 points and nine rebounds in a 97-76 win at Tiffin. He scored 25 points with five assists in a 95-85 victory over Malone; and then fired in 24 points with eight boards in an 80-77 win at NAIA Division II No. 18 Shawnee State, who entered the game tied with Walsh for the AMC lead.

For the week, Holt shot .508 from the field overall, made 11-of-21 three-pointers for a .524 accuracy, and was .818 at the charity stripe. He totaled 23 rebounds, 10 assists, two steals, and one blocked shot.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Daemen guard Kevin Lange (Randolph, NY; Randolph H.S.) and Mount Vernon Nazarene guard Phil Argento (Grafton, OH; Lutheran West H.S.) have been named AMC men's basketball Co-Players of the Week.

Lange, a 6-foot-6 junior, averaged 27.5 points in two AMC victories. He poured in 32 points in a 84-78 win over Roberts Wesleyan and added 23 more in a 73-64 decision at Notre Dame. He shot .545 from the field overall, .636 behind the arc, and .600 at the line with 11 rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Argento, a 6-2 junior, averaged 22 points in a pair of conference wins. He buried seven three-pointers and scored 27 points in a 101-94 victory over Malone and tallied 17 points in a 97-92 overtime win versus Roberts Wesleyan. He shot .448 from the field, .562 outside the arc, and made all nine of his free throws. Argento added five assists, three rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot. MVNC has moved from 12th place to a tie for 5th with four wins in their last five games.

(January 21-27)
Andre Horton, Shawnee State University
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Shawnee State guard Andre Horton (Lima, OH; Lima H.S.) has been selected the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season. The 5-foot-9 junior supplied 29 points and five assists per game in pacing the league-leading Bears to two more AMC wins.

Horton buried seven three-pointers and scored 30 points with six assists in a 80-79 win versus Rio Grande. He drilled seven more treys en route to 28 points and four assists during a 100-82 victory over Ohio Dominican.

For the week, Horton shot .474 from the field overall, nailed 14-of-26 shots from behind the arc for a .538 accuracy, and posted a .889 percentage at the charity stripe. He also contributed five rebounds and two steals for Shawnee State, ranked No. 22 in NAIA Division II.

(January 14-20)
Joe Rebisz, Roberts Wesleyan College
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Roberts Wesleyan forward Joe Rebisz (Perry, NY; Perry H.S.) has been named the AMC Player of the Week in men's basketball. The 6-foot-6 senior averaged 24.3 points and 16 rebounds in three games at the J.P. Morgan Chase Tournament in Rochester, NY.

Rebisz produced 27 points with 21 rebounds in a 93-88 double-overtime loss to SUNY Geneseo. He came back with 25 points and nine boards during a 99-62 win versus Keuka, and 21 points with 18 rebounds in a 66-53 victory over Rochester.

Rebisz shot .617 from the field and .625 at the charity stripe to go along with four assists, four blocks, and two steals. He was named to the All-Tournament First Team after leading the event in scoring and rebounding.

(January 7-13)
Andre Horton, Shawnee State University
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Shawnee State guard Andre Horton (Lima, OH; Lima H.S.) has been selected the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-9 junior, who leads the league in scoring, was also named the NAIA Division II National Player of the Week after averaging 34.5 ppg in a pair of road victories.

Horton exploded for 41 points in a 101-95 double-overtime win at Cedarville. He scored 15 of his points in the extra periods including 10 straight in the second OT. Horton finished his week with 28 points in a 88-75 victory at Tiffin which avenged a loss to the Dragons just seven days earlier.

For the week, Horton shot .422 from the field overall, made 13-of-30 three-pointers for a .433 accuracy, and hit 18-of-22 free throws for .818. He also produced five assists and four steals.

(December 31 - January 6)
Kipp Huntsberger, Tiffin University
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Tiffin guard Kipp Huntsberger (Tipp City, OH; Tippecanoe H.S.) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-8 senior averaged 23 points per game in leading the Dragons to a pair of AMC victories.

Huntsberger drained five three-pointers and scored 29 points in a 82-77 win versus Roberts Wesleyan. He came back with 17 points in a 101-96 victory at Shawnee State which handed the Bears their first home loss of the season.

For the week, Huntsberger shot 68.0 percent from the field overall, made 7-of-12 treys for 58.3 percent, and hit 83.3 percent of his free throws. He contributed five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Jerry Barlow, University of Rio Grande
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande forward Jerry Barlow (Otway, OH; Northwest H.S.) is the AMC Player of the Week in men's basketball. The 6-foot-5 junior was named the MVP of the Rio Grande Classic after averaging 26.5 points and eight rebounds in a pair of victories.

Barlow recorded 26 points, six rebounds, and five assists in a 97-84 win versus Alice Lloyd. His double-double of 27 points and 10 boards paced the Redmen to a 79-69 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan in the championship game.

Barlow shot .533 from the field overall, .308 behind the arc, and converted 17-of-19 free throws for a .895 accuracy. He totaled six assists, two blocks, and two steals.

Jeremy Renner, Ohio Dominican College
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Dominican center Jeremy Renner (Beavercreek, OH; Beavercreek H.S.) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-6 sophomore scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a 85-71 win over NAIA Division II No. 25 Mount Vernon Nazarene.

Renner made 7-of-9 shots from the field and converted both of his free throw attempts. He added two blocks and two assists in the win for the Panthers.

Dartona Washam, Saint Vincent College
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Saint Vincent forward Dartona Washam (New Castle, DE; Sanford H.S.) has been selected the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-5 freshman fired in 33 points to pace the Bearcats to a 90-85 AMC win over Ohio Dominican.

Washam, who earlier scored an AMC record 47 points versus Cedarville, was 12-for-15 from the field against ODC. Saint Vincent made 35-of-47 shots as a team for a conference record 74.5 percent. Washam was 3-for-4 outside the arc and 6-for-7 at the line with five assists, three rebounds, and two steals.

(December 3-9)
Dimitar Simovski, Point Park College
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Point Park guard Dimitar Simovski (Skopje, Macedonia) has been named the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-11 freshman averaged 29 points and six assists while leading the Pioneers to a pair of wins.

Simovski erupted for 35 points, eight rebounds, six steals, and five assists in a 76-71 win at NCAA Division II West Liberty State. He followed that effort with 23 points and seven assists in a 83-71 victory over NAIA Division II No. 25 Shawnee State.

For the week, Simovski shot .714 from the field overall and hit 6-of-8 three-pointers for a .750 accuracy. He was 12-for-18 at the charity stripe to go along with 12 assists, nine rebounds, and six steals.

(November 26 - December 2)
Shawn Stead, Malone College
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Malone guard Shawn Stead (Steubenville, OH; Indian Creek H.S.) has been selected the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The six-foot senior averaged 23.3 points per game during a 3-0 week for the Pioneers.

Stead racked up 25 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in a 76-65 AMC victory over Geneva; tallied 19 points in a 95-70 win versus Indiana-East in the first round of the Malone Tournament; then had 26 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in a 93-82 win against Central State in the title game.

For the week, Stead shot .525 from the field overall, was 10-for-20 outside the arc for a .500 accuracy, and made 18-of-22 free throws for a .818 percentage. He totaled 15 assists, 14 rebounds, five steals, and two blocks.

(November 19-25)
Andre Horton, Shawnee State University
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Shawnee State guard Andre Horton (Lima, OH; Lima H.S.) has been selected the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-9 junior averaged 32.5 points as the Bears split two games.

Horton drilled seven three-pointers and scored 29 points in a 103-78 setback at NCAA Division I Morehead State. He followed that with six more treys and 36 points in a 95-91 victory over Grace.

For the week, Horton, shot .489 from the field overall, .481 outside the arc, and .889 at the free throw line. He added six assists, three rebounds, and two steals.

(November 12-18)
Joe Rebisz, Roberts Wesleyan College
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Roberts Wesleyan forward Joe Rebisz (Perry, NY; Perry H.S.) is the first Player of the Week for the 2001-02 AMC men's basketball season. He guided the Raiders to the Pitt-Johnstown Classic championship and was named Tournament MVP.

Rebisz, a 6-foot-6 senior, scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 85-79 victory over Alderson-Broaddus. He then had 17 points, including two game-clinching free throws with seven seconds left, to go along with 16 boards in the 74-71 championship game win over host UPJ. Roberts Wesleyan overcame a 20-point, second-half deficit to claim the victory.

Rebisz shot .545 from the field and .846 at the charity stripe. He added three blocks, two steals, and one assist.
