MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (5.3.2002) -- Walsh claimed the AMC/NAIA Region IX men's golf championship with a nine-stroke victory in the 54-hole event which was played at the Apple Valley Golf Club. The Cavaliers totaled 917 while Mount Vernon Nazarene and defending champion Malone tied at 926. Urbana finished at 932 and Shawnee State had 956 to round out the top five in the 11-team field. Walsh's Chris Saltmarsh captured medalist honors with rounds of 80-74-70 for a 224 total. Cavalier head coach Jeff Young was tabbed AMC Coach of the Year.
