2003 Players of the Week

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande teammates Ben Hunter (Doncaster, England) and
Oliver Sanders (Colchester, England) are have been named the AMC men's soccer
Players of the Week. They led the NAIA No. 1 ranked Redmen to their third
straight NAIA Region IX championship.
Hunter, a freshman forward, scored a goal in a
4-0 win versus Notre Dame in the semifinals. He added another score in a 2-1
victory against No. 14 Tiffin in the final.
Sanders, a senior goalkeeper, played all 90
minutes of both matches. He stopped three shots against Notre Dame and four
versus Tiffin.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande teammates John Carroll (Preston, England) and
Oliver Sanders (Colchester, England) are the AMC men's soccer Players of the
Week. The duo led the NAIA No. 1 ranked Redmen to a 2-0 victory over Geneva in
the AMC Qualifying Tournament.
Carroll, a sophomore midfielder from Preston,
England, had a goal and an assist in the win. Sanders, a senior goalkeeper from
Colchester, England, played all 90 minutes with one save.

Kiel Menick, Tiffin University (defense)
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene midfielder Stephen Reynard
(Hendersonville, TN) and Tiffin defender Kiel Menick (Hinckley, OH) have been
named the AMC men's soccer Players of the Week.
Reynard, a 5-foot-11 freshman, earned the top
offensive player honors with two goals and five assists in two victories.
Despite beginning the week without having scored a point the entire season, he
responded with a goal and three assists in a 5-2 win at Shawnee State. He
finished with a goal and two assists in a 3-0 decision versus Walsh.
Menick, a 5-8 senior, was part of a Tiffin
defense that allowed just two goals during a 1-0-1 week against two South
Division teams that have qualified for the post season. The Dragons defeated
Ohio Dominican, 3-1, and then played host and NAIA No. 1 Rio Grande to a 1-1
tie.

Andy Mortek, Tiffin University (defense)
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Tiffin teammates Ron Mugabi (Jinja, Uganda) and Andy Mortek
(Centerville, OH) have been selected the AMC men's soccer Players of the Week.
They guided the NAIA No. 20 Dragons to a pair of 1-0 South Division wins to
extend their unbeaten streak to 10 matches (9-0-1).
Mugabi, a 5-foot-9 junior forward was tabbed
the offensive player of the week after scoring both TU goals. He found the net
in the 57th minute versus Walsh and buried a direct kick in the 78th minute
against Cedarville.
Mortek, a 5-9 sophomore goalkeeper, is the
defensive player of the week. He stopped seven shots in the Walsh match and was
credited with five more saves against Cedarville.

Justin Kempton, Tiffin University (defense)
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Geneva forward Neil Rabi (Wichita, KS) and Tiffin defender
Justin Kempton (Strongsville, OH) have been named the AMC men's soccer Players
of the Week.
Rabi, a 5-foot-10 junior, scored three goals to
lead Geneva to pair of AMC North Division wins. He netted both goals in a 2-1
victory over defending North champ Notre Dame and then had the first score of
the contest in a 3-1 decision versus Saint Vincent.
Kempton, a 5-10 junior, scored once in a 2-1
AMC South Division win at Urbana. He then played a key role in holding North
Division leader Houghton in check during a 2-1 upset of the NAIA No. 16
Highlanders.

John Ames, Houghton College (defense)
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Saint Vincent forward Dave Suski (Donora, PA) and Houghton
defender John Ames (Hilton, NY) are the AMC men's soccer Players of the Week.
Suski, a 6-foot-2 sophomore, netted four goals
during Saint Vincent's 1-0-1 week in AMC North Division play. He scored all
three Bearcat goals in a 3-3 tie at Daemen. Suski also scored once in a 2-0 win
versus Seton Hill.
Ames, a 5-10 junior, was instrumental in a pair
of shutout victories for NAIA No. 19 Houghton. He scored a goal in a 4-0 win
versus NCAA Division II No. 7 Mercyhurst. The Highlanders also blanked AMC
South Division member Urbana, 7-0.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Tiffin forward Ron Mugabi (Jinja, Uganda) and Rio Grande
goalkeeper Oliver Sanders (Colchester, England) have been selected the AMC
men's soccer Players of the Week.
Mugabi, a 5-foot-9 senior, registered four
goals and an assist to lead Tiffin to a pair of victories. He had a goal and an
assist in a 2-1 victory over NCAA Division II Saginaw Valley State. He finished
his week with three goals in a 4-0 win at Roberts Wesleyan.
Sanders, a 6-2 senior, was credited with
back-to-back shutouts as NAIA No. 1 Rio Grande posted AMC South Division road
victories. He made two saves in an 8-0 win at Cedarville and had one save in a
4-0 decision at Walsh. Sanders has allowed just one goal this season.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene forward Steven Lesmes (Fredonia, NY)
and Geneva goalkeeper Chris Roberts (Beaver Falls, PA) have been selected the
AMC Players of the Week in men's soccer.
Lesmes, a 5-foot-7 freshman, scored three goals
in two matches to help MVNU extend their winning streak to six straight. He
scored once in a 3-1 AMC South Division victory over Urbana and had both goals
in a 2-0 win versus Indiana Wesleyan.
Roberts, a six-foot senior, made six saves and
recorded his first shutout of the season in a 4-0 win against Point Park in an
AMC North Division match. He did not allow a goal in 86 minutes of action in a
5-1 victory over Taylor and then made 10 saves in a 1-0 loss to NAIA No. 19
Judson in the finals of the Geneva Invitational.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Houghton teammates Trevor Eby (New Holland, PA) and Steve
Cox (Markham, Ontario) are the AMC men's soccer Players of the Week. They led
the Highlanders to a 3-1 win versus NCAA Division II No. 21 Ashland and a 7-0
AMC North Division victory against Notre Dame.
Eby, a senior forward, had a goal and two
assists versus Ashland. He came back with a goal and three assists against
Notre Dame. Eby moved into fourth place on Houghton's all-time points list with
48 goals and 38 assists for 134 points.
Cox, a junior goalkeeper, went the distance in
goal against Ashland with two saves. He was credited with three saves in 73
minutes of the Notre Dame match.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Geneva forward Neil Rabi and Cedarville goalkeeper Joel
Reemtsma have been named the AMC men's soccer Players of the Week.
Rabi, a junior from Wichita, KS, is the
Offensive Player of the Week after guiding Geneva to a pair of wins with a goal
and four assists. He scored one goal with an assist in a 2-1 win against NCAA
Division II Slippery Rock and assisted three times in a 5-1 conquest of Urbana.
Reemtsma, a senior from Kenai, AK, bounced back
from missing two games with an injury to blank previously unbeaten Grace, 2-0.
He made three saves in his first collegiate shutout while improving his record
to 3-0-1.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande forward Simon Carey and Mount Vernon Nazarene
defender Rickey Warren are the AMC men's soccer Players of the Week.
Carey, a junior from Preston, England, scored
four goals in a pair of wins for NAIA No. 3 Rio Grande. He had the lone tally
in a 1-0 win versus No. 22 Madonna. He added three more goals in a 7-0 victory
over Viterbo.
Warren, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, led
Mount Vernon Nazarene to their own invitational title by defeating Moody Bible
Institute, 6-0, and Nyack, 3-1. He assisted on the game-winning goal in the
championship match. The Cougars limited their two opponents to five shots on
goal total.
