2004 Players of the Week


(May 8-9)
Krista Tucker, University of Rio Grande (position)
Katie Moloney, Ohio Dominican University (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande centerfielder Krista Tucker (Georgetown, OH) and Ohio Dominican pitcher Katie Moloney (Westerville, OH) are the AMC softball Players of the Week.

Tucker, a 5-foot-9 senior, was 5-for-7 in two games as the Redwomen swept their AMC playoff series at Seton Hill. She drove in three runs, walked once, and stole one base.

Moloney, a 5-foot-9 righthander, tossed back-to-back complete-game shutouts for Ohio Dominican. She hurled a two-hitter in a 4-0 win at Shawnee State and then checked Notre Dame on a one-hitter, 4-0, in the AMC playoffs. Moloney fanned nine batters in each game.

Laura Kot, Mount Vernon Nazarene University (position)
Natalie Fox, Cedarville University (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene outfielder Laura Kot (Tallmadge, OH) and Cedarville pitcher Natalie Fox (Temecula, CA) have been named the AMC women's softball Players of the Week.

Kot, a 5-foot-5 freshman, batted .700 in three games for MVNU. Despite playing with a stress fracture in her foot, she was 7-for-10 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI's. Her highlight was a 4-for-4 effort versus Piedmont GA in the first game of the NCCAA National Tournament.

Fox, a 5-6 junior righthander, posted her school-record 9th shutout of the season with a 4-0 victory over Walsh. In seven innings pitched, she allowed five hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks.

Stephanie Bowshier, Ohio Dominican University (position)
Katie Moloney, Ohio Dominican University (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Dominican teammates Stephanie Bowshier (Grove City, OH) and Katie Moloney (Westerville, OH) are the AMC women's softball Players of the Week. They guided the Panthers to a 4-2 week.

Bowshier, a 5-foot-3 sophomore outfielder, took the honor for position players after hitting .550 with two doubles, three triples, and six RBI's. She hit safely in all six games including a pair of three-hit efforts and scored four runs.

Moloney, a 5-9 sophomore pitcher, who was last week's NAIA National Pitcher of the Week, was 3-0 and did not allow a run in four appearances. She tossed three complete-game shutouts and struck out 21 batters with six walks.

Jenny Olding, University of Rio Grande (position)
Katie Moloney, Ohio Dominican University (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande outfielder Jenny Olding (Fairfield, OH) and Ohio Dominican pitcher Katie Moloney (Westerville, OH) have been named the AMC Players of the Week in women's softball. Moloney was also tabbed the NAIA National Pitcher of the Week.

Olding, a 5-foot-8 sophomore, batted .571 with three home runs and 17 RBI's to lead Rio Grande to a 7-1 week. She had 16 hits in 28 at bats with seven doubles and a 1.143 slugging percentage. One of her homers was a grand slam.

Moloney, a 5-9 sophomore, did not allow an earned run while posting a 3-0 record. Her week included a complete-game no-hitter in a 4-1 win versus Mount Vernon Nazarene and a two-hit 5-0 victory at Walsh. Moloney struck out 21 batters in 17 2/3 innings and surrendered two hits total in three appearances.

Nicole Hinerman, Saint Vincent College (position)
Rachel Richardson, Tiffin University (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Saint Vincent third baseman Nicole Hinerman (Greensburg, PA) and Tiffin pitcher Rachel Richardson (Fairfield, OH) are the AMC women's softball Players of the Week.

Hinerman, a 5-foot-6 senior, batted .643 with a 1.214 slugging percentage in four games for Saint Vincent. She recorded nine hits in 14 at bats with three doubles, a triple, one home run, eight RBI's, and six runs scored. Hinerman also stole two bases in two attempts.

Richardson, a 5-8 junior righthander, was 6-0 with a 0.54 ERA after pitching both ends of three consecutive doubleheaders. She allowed three earned runs in 39 innings pitched with 25 strikeouts and five walks.

(March 28 - April 3)
Gina Schneider, Ohio Dominican University (position)
Heather Jones, Malone College (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Dominican third baseman Gina Schneider (Bellefontaine, OH) and Malone pitcher Heather Jones (Mansfield, OH) have been named the AMC softball Players of the Week.

Schneider, a 5-foot-6 freshman, batted .455 as Ohio Dominican went 4-0 at the McKendree Tournament. She had five hits in 11 bats with a double, four RBI's, and five runs scored.

Jones, a 5-7 sophomore, was 2-0 and did not allow an earned run in two appearances at Saint Vincent. She struck out nine batters and tossed a one-hit, 9-0 victory in the opener. Jones also registered the 3-2 win in relief of the nightcap with three K's in 2 2/3 innings. She did not walk a batter on the day and surrendered one hit total.

Rachel Richardson, Tiffin University (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene outfielder Laura Kot (Tallmadge, OH) and Tiffin pitcher Rachel Richardson (Fairfield, OH) are the AMC softball Players of the Week.

Kot, a 5-foot-5 freshman, batted .571 in four games for Mount Vernon Nazarene. She registered eight hits in 14 at bats with two triples, three RBI's, and five runs scored.

Richardson, a 5-8 junior righthander, posted a 5-0 record with a 0.60 ERA. In five complete-game appearances, she allowed three earned runs in 35 innings with 17 strikeouts and six walks.

Emily Cooper, University of Rio Grande (position)
Katie Moloney, Ohio Dominican University (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande second baseman Emily Cooper (Okeana, OH) and Ohio Dominican pitcher Katie Moloney (Westerville, OH) have been selected the AMC softball Players of the Week.

Cooper, a 5-foot-4 senior, paced Rio to a 5-3 week by hitting .481 with 13 hits in 27 at bats. She hit safely in all eight games with nine runs scored, four RBI's, and she was a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen bases. Cooper also handled 26 chances in the field without an error.

Moloney, a 5-9 sophomore, was 1-1 with a 0.88 ERA in four pitching appearances for Ohio Dominican. In 16 innings of action, she allowed two earned runs on 19 hits with 19 strikeouts and nine walks.

Kristina Schweikert, Tiffin University (position)
Natalie Fox, Cedarville University (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Tiffin outfielder Kristina Schweikert (Rochester, NY) and Cedarville pitcher Natalie Fox (Temucula, CA) are the first AMC softball Players of the Week for the 2004 season.

Schweikert, a 5-foot-6 sophomore, batted .391 to lead the Dragons to a 5-3 week. She registered nine hits in 23 at bats with two doubles, three RBI's, and six runs scored. Schweikert hit safely in all seven games in which she played.

Fox, a 5-6 junior righthander, went 4-1 with three complete-game shutouts and a 0.18 ERA. She pitched 37 1/3 innings in seven appearances allowing one earned run on 20 hits. Fox struck out 37 batters and walked 10. She blanked Cornerstone, 1-0, on a two-hitter; shut down Saint Thomas, 3-0, with a two-hitter; and allowed six hits to Bridgeport in a 2-0 victory.
