2004 Players of the Week


(Oct. 24-30)
Guy Heywood, Rio Grande (offense)
Eric Brockmeier, Walsh (defense)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande forward Guy Heywood (Preston, England) and Walsh goalkeeper Eric Brockmeier (Marietta, OH) have been named the AMC men’s soccer Players of the Week.

Heywood, a 6-foot-1 freshman, racked up four goals and three assists as NAIA No. 1 Rio Grande defeated Shawnee State, 12-1. The Redmen then wrapped up the AMC South Division crown with a 3-0 win at Tiffin.

Brockmeier, a 6-0 junior, led Walsh into the playoffs by making four saves in a 1-0 victory at Ohio Dominican. He also tallied seven saves in a 3-1 win versus Cedarville.

Simon Carey, Rio Grande (offense)
Andrew Moore, Rio Grande (defense)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande teammates Simon Carey (Preston, England) and Andrew Moore (Manchester, England) are the AMC men’s soccer Players of the Week. They helped the NAIA No. 1 ranked Redmen to back-to-back shutouts in AMC South Division matches.

Carey, a 6-foot-3 senior forward, scored four goals and handed out two assists on the week. He had two goals and an assist in a 6-0 victory over Malone and two goals with an assist in a 7-0 win versus Urbana.

Moore, a 6-1 freshman goalkeeper, made one save and posted the shutout versus Malone. He made four saves in 75 minutes in the decision against Urbana.

Linos Sinkala, Roberts Wesleyan (offense)
Jordan Knight, Mount Vernon Nazarene (defense)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Roberts Wesleyan midfielder Linos Sinkala (Zambia, Africa) and Mount Vernon Nazarene goalkeeper Jordan Knight (Kentwood, MI) have been selected the AMC men’s soccer Players of the Week.

Sinkala, a 5-foot-6 junior, tallied two goals and three assists to lead Roberts Wesleyan to a pair of AMC North Division victories. He had two goals and two assists in a 7-2 win at Daemen. He also set up the game-winning goal in overtime of a 2-1 decision versus Saint Vincent.

Knight, a 6-1 sophomore, notched his fifth and sixth shutouts of the season for Mount Vernon Nazarene. He made seven saves in a 2-0 win at Malone in an AMC South Division contest and then finished the week with six saves in a 3-0 victory against Seton Hill.

Adam Galando, Seton Hill (defense)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene forward Josh Van Pelt (Maryville, TN) and Seton Hill defender Adam Galando (Irwin, PA) are the AMC men’s soccer Players of the Week.

Van Pelt, a 5-foot-7 sophomore , scored the MVNU goal as the Cougars played defending NAIA national champion and No. 1 ranked Rio Grande to a 1-1 double overtime tie. Van Pelt’s early goal, his 11th of the season, put the hosts on the board first and they held the lead until two minutes left in regulation. It was the first conference goal allowed by Rio this season and only the third over the past two years.

Galando, a 5-11 freshman, contributed a goal and an assist while helping Seton Hill post back-to-back shutouts against North Division foes. He assisted on the lone score in a 1-0 upset at Notre Dame and then added a goal in a 2-0 win versus Saint Vincent. Notre Dame and Saint Vincent ranked 1st and 3rd, respectively, in the AMC in goals scored prior to being blanked by the Griffins. Seton Hill entered the week with a 2-8 record.

Ron Mugabi, Tiffin (offense)
Aaron Vorst, Urbana (defense)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Tiffin forward Ron Mugabi (Jinja, Uganda) and Urbana goalkeeper Aaron Vorst (Kalida, OH) are the AMC Players of the Week in men’s soccer.

Mugabi, a 5-foot-9 senior, led Tiffin to a 3-0 week with four goals and two assists. He netted one goal in a 2-0 AMC South Division victory at Walsh; scored twice with one assist during a 5-1 win versus Ashland; and added a goal with an assist in a 3-1 decision over Northwood.

Vorst, a 6-2 senior, posted a 0.93 goals against average while helping Urbana to a 2-0-1 week. He made six saves in a 1-0 win versus Cedarville in an AMC South Division contest; stopped five shots during a 3-1 victory at Bluffton; and then made seven saves, including one on a penalty kick, in a 2-2 tie at conference foe Mount Vernon Nazarene.

Dennis Idrissa, Roberts Wesleyan (offense)
Eric Pfeiffer, Ohio Dominican (defense)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Roberts Wesleyan forward Dennis Idrissa (Niger, Africa) and Ohio Dominican goalkeeper Eric Pfeiffer (Westerville, OH) have been selected the AMC Players of the Week in men’s soccer.

Idrissa, a 5-foot-11 sophomore, scored two goals with two assists to help NAIA No. 11 Roberts Wesleyan to a pair of victories to remain unbeaten. He had one goal in a 2-1 win versus NCAA Division III No. 3 Rochester NY and then registered a goal and two assists in a 4-1 AMC North Division victory at Houghton.

Pfeiffer, a 6-4 sophomore, did not allow a goal in three appearances during the week. He made two saves in 45 minutes of action in a 3-1 win versus Mount Union; added two saves in 45 minutes of a 5-0 decision over Saint Vincent; and then posted three saves and was credited with the shutout in a 2-0 victory at John Carroll.

Rick Seigh, Saint Vincent (offense)
Steve Cox, Houghton (defense)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Saint Vincent forward Rick Seigh (Monroeville, PA) and Houghton goalkeeper Steven Cox (Markham, Ontario) are the AMC men’s soccer Players of the Week.

Seigh, a 6-foot-2 senior, equalled a 23-year old school record with five goals to go along with one assist in a 9-0 victory at Shawnee State. He also assisted on the only score of the match in a 1-0 AMC North Division win versus Geneva.

Cox, a 5-11 senior, posted two shutouts for the week. He made three saves in a 1-0 win versus Daemen in an AMC North Division contest. He was also credited with eight saves in a 0-0 tie with Tiffin.

Frank Jonke, Notre Dame (offense)
Andrew Moore, Rio Grande (defense)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande goalkeeper Andrew Moore (Manchester, England) and Notre Dame forward Frank Jonke (Toronto, Ontario) are the AMC men's soccer Players of the Week. Moore was also selected the NAIA Region IX Player of the Week and NAIA National Player of the Week.

Moore, a 6-foot-1 freshman, helped NAIA No. 1 Rio Grande remain unbeaten by posting a pair of shutouts on the road against ranked opponents. He stopped four shots in a 2-0 win at No. 6 Auburn-Montgomery and then made six saves in a 1-0 victory at No. 18 Mobile.

Jonke, a 6-3 freshman, erupted for six goals in a 10-0 decision versus Concordia MI. He began his week with two goals in a 4-3 loss at Wittenberg. Jonke has netted 14 goals in six matches including three "hat tricks."

(Aug. 29 - Sept. 4)
Neil Rabi, Geneva (offense)
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Geneva forward Neil Rabi (Wichita, KS) is the AMC men's soccer Player of the Week. The six-foot senior scored four goals and tallied two assists to lead the Golden Tornadoes, 2-0, to the Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational title.

Rabi opened with a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win versus Saint Francis IN. He came back with three goals and an assist during a 5-1 victory in the championship match versus the host Cougars. The outcome ended MVNU's 17-match home unbeaten streak.
