2005 Players of the Week


(May 2-8)
Jackie Greetham, Cedarville (position)
Dana Armbruster, Ursuline (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville outfielder Jackie Greetham (Wellington, OH) and Ursuline pitcher Dana Armbruster (Strongsville, OH) are the AMC Players of the Week in women’s softball.

Greetham, a 5-foot-5 junior, was 5-for-6 at the plate to lead Cedarville to a twinbill sweep over Seton Hill in the AMC Tournament Qualifier series. She also scored three runs and had one stolen base.

Armbruster, a 5-9 junior, was the winning pitcher in back-to-back 3-1 decisions at Rio Grande as Ursuline stunned the defending NAIA Region IX champions. In 14 innings pitched, she allowed one earned run on 14 hits with 17 strikeouts and one walk.

Stephanie Johnson, Mount Vernon Nazarene (position)
Jessica Jurkovic, Ohio Dominican (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene shortstop Stephanie Johnson (Tallmadge, OH) and Ohio Dominican pitcher Jessica Jurkovic (Cortland, OH) are the AMC women’s softball Players of the Week.

Johnson, a 5-foot-3 junior, hit .615 to lead MVNU to a 4-0 week. She recorded eight hits in 13 at bats with a double, a triple, two home runs, and eight RBI’s. Johnson amassed a 1.308 slugging percentage, scored six runs, and handled 15 chances in the field without committing an error.

Jurkovic, a 5-7 senior righthander, did not allow an earned run while posting a 3-0 record with three complete games. In 21 innings pitched, she gave up one unearned run on eight hits with 22 strikeouts and three walks. Jurkovic fired a no-hitter in a 4-0 win at Urbana.

Whitney Kirby, Cedarville (position)
Erinne Metler, Geneva (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville first baseman Whitney Kirby (Franklin, OH) and Geneva pitcher Erinne Metler (Hinsdale, NY) have been named the AMC women’s softball Players of the Week.

Kirby, a 5-foot-5 freshman, batted .600 to lead the Lady Jackets to a 3-1 week. She was 9-for-15 with a pair of doubles, a triple, five RBI’s, and four runs scored. Kirby had a 5-for-5 effort versus Concordia MI in the NCCAA Midwest Regional and was later named to the all-tournament team. She also handled 31 fielding chances during the week with no errors.

Metler, a 5-5 sophomore, was 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA in two starts for Geneva. She allowed one earned run in 13 innings pitched with five strikeouts and a walk. Metler had her streak of 29 consecutive scoreless innings snapped in an 11-1 win over AMC North Division foe Point Park.

Tabitha Furlong, Ohio Dominican (position)
Jessica Jurkovic, Ohio Dominican (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Dominican teammates Tabitha Furlong (West Mansfield, OH) and pitcher Jessica Jurkovic (Cortland, OH) have been named the AMC women’s softball Players of the Week. They helped NAIA No. 21 the Panthers to a 9-1 week.

Furlong, a 5-foot-4 senior shortstop, went 19-for-33 at the plate for a .576 batting average with four doubles, three triples, and eight RBI’s. She scored 15 runs and stole eight bases to tie her own single-season school record of 37.

Jurkovic, a 5-7 senior, repeated as Pitcher of the Week after going 5-0 with a 0.68 ERA. In 31 innings pitched, she allowed three earned runs while striking out 35 batters with just two walks.

Jenny Olding, Rio Grande (position)
Jessica Jurkovic, Ohio Dominican (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande outfielder Jenny Olding (Fairfield, OH) and Ohio Dominican pitcher Jessica Jurkovic (Cortland, OH) have been named the AMC Players of the Week in women’s softball. Olding was also named the NAIA National Player of the Week.

Olding, a 5-foot-9 junior, led Rio Grande to a 7-1 week by hitting .625 with a double, two triples, four home runs, and 18 RBI’s. She registered 15 hits in 24 at bats, added three walks, and scored 12 runs.

Jurkovic, a 5-7 senior, had a 2-0 pitching record with a 0.44 ERA. She tossed a complete game in a 5-0, nine-inning victory at Mount Vernon Nazarene in which she allowed just two hits while striking out 16 and walking three. Jurkovic then checked Shawnee State on four hits during an 8-1 decision in which she fanned five batters without a walk.

(March 28 - April 3)

Heather Clark, Mount Vernon Nazarene (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene teammates Stephanie Johnson (Tallmadge, OH) and Heather Clark (Oxford, OH) have been named the AMC women’s softball Players of the Week. They helped lead the Cougars to a 4-0 week.

Johnson, a junior shortstop, batted .625 in doubleheader sweeps over Notre Dame and Geneva to earn AMC Position Player of the Week honors. She was 5-for-8 at the plate with two doubles, three RBI’s, and four runs scored. Johnson also walked three times.

Clark, a junior righthanded pitcher, tossed back-to-back three-hit shutouts. She fanned eight batters with two walks in a 1-0 win versus Notre Dame and followed that up with seven strikeouts and a walk in a 3-0 victory over Geneva.

(March 21-27)
Jenny Olding, Rio Grande (position)
Natalie Fox, Cedarville (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rio Grande outfielder Jenny Olding (Fairfield, OH) and Cedarville pitcher Natalie Fox (Temecula, CA) have been named the first AMC women’s softball Players of the Week for the 2005 season.

Olding, a 5-foot-8 junior, batted .429 in ten games for the Redwomen. She produced 12 hits in 28 at bats with two doubles, two triples, and six runs scored. Olding, who had four games of two or more hits, also walked four times and drove in two runs.

Fox, a 5-6 senior righthander, tossed nine scoreless innings versus Walsh with six strikeouts and four walks. She tossed a complete-game two-hitter for 1-0 victory over the Cavaliers for her 19th career shutout. Fox also hurled two innings of relief without allowing a run.
