2004-05 Players of the Week


(February 20-26)
Judy Wright, Roberts Wesleyan
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Roberts Wesleyan guard Judy Wright (Syracuse, NY) is the AMC women’s basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-7 junior averaged 35 points and 11.5 rebounds to lead the Raiders to two victories in the AMC/NAIA Division II Qualifying Tournament.

Wright opened with 33 points and nine rebounds in a 72-58 win versus Urbana. She finished with 37 points and 14 boards during a 95-58 victory against No. 17 Rio Grande.

For the week, she shot 44 percent from the field and 59 percent at the charity stripe. She added 14 assists and six steals.

Kari Flunker, Cedarville
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville guard Kari Flunker (Florence, WI) has been chosen the AMC women’s basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-7 senior, who was also selected the NAIA Division II National Player of the Week, helped the No. 1 Lady Jackets complete their second straight perfect season in the AMC South Division by averaging 26 points and seven assists in a pair of road victories.

Flunker tallied 25 points and nine assists in a 81-65 victory at Tiffin. She added 27 points, five assists, and four steals in a 93-70 win at Malone which included a 5-for-5 effort outside the three-point arc.

For the week, Flunker made 20-of-29 shots from the field for 69 percent and converted 8-of-10 three-pointers for 80 percent. She made all four of her free throws to go along with 14 assists, seven rebounds, and six steals. Flunker has 2,186 career points and is 44 points shy from becoming the school’s all-time scoring leader.

Nikki Parson, Malone
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Malone forward Nikki Parson (Sugarcreek, OH) is the AMC women’s basketball Player of the Week and also the NAIA Division II National Player of the Week. The six-foot sophomore averaged 21.5 points and 12 rebounds with back-to-back double-doubles in a pair of victories.

Parson opened her week with 25 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals in a 67-50 victory over Canton rival Walsh. She had 18 points and 12 boards in a 76-68 win at Urbana which avenged an earlier 18-point home loss to the Blue Knights.

For the week, Parson shot 53 percent from the field and made 11-of-12 free throws for 92 percent. She added six steals and four assists.

(January 30 - February 5)
Chemika Pittman, Urbana
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Urbana guard Chemika Pittman (Akron, OH) has been named the AMC women’s basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-9 senior averaged 21.7 points per game in three road contests and moved into 2nd place on the Blue Knights’ all-time scoring list with 1,625 points.

Pittman opened with 19 points and eight rebounds in a 72-59 setback at Shawnee State. She then posted a double-double of 20 points and 10 boards during a 74-56 win at Malone, and then netted 26 points in a 75-69 victory at Tiffin.

Pittman shot 57 percent from the field overall and 44 percent outside the three-point arc. She made 4-of-5 free throws to go along with 22 rebounds, nine assists, four steals, and two blocked shots.

Judy Wright, Roberts Wesleyan
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Roberts Wesleyan guard Judy Wright (Syracuse, NY) is the AMC Player of the Week for women’s basketball for the second straight time. She was also tabbed the NAIA Division II National Player of the Week. The 5-foot-7 junior averaged 26.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 5.7 assists as the Raiders picked up three more AMC North Division wins.

Wright opened her week with 18 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds in a 70-48 win versus Houghton. She erupted for 38 points, nine rebounds, and five steals during a 88-75 victory over Saint Vincent, and then produced a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds as the Raiders avenged their lone league loss to date with an 80-57 decision against Seton Hill.

For the week, Wright shot 48 percent from the field overall and 33 percent from three-point territory. She made 82 percent of her free throws and totaled 27 rebounds, 17 assists, and 13 steals.

Judy Wright, Roberts Wesleyan
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Roberts Wesleyan guard Judy Wright (Syracuse, NY) is the AMC Player of the Week for women’s basketball. The 5-foot-7 junior averaged 31.5 points to lead the Raiders to a pair of AMC North Division road victories.

Wright’s highlight was a school-record 41-point performance with six steals in a 75-65 win at Point Park. She also scored 22 points during a 86-59 decision at Carlow.

For the week, Wright shot 64 percent from the field overall, buried 8-of-11 three-pointers for 73 percent, and converted 13-of-17 free throws for 77 percent. She also totaled eight rebounds, eight steals, and three assists.

(January 9-15)
Brittany Smart, Cedarville
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville wing Brittany Smart (Springfield, OH) has been selected the AMC Player of the Week in women’s basketball. The 5-foot-9 sophomore led the NAIA Division II No. 2 Lady Jackets to a pair of victories by averaging 25 points per game which included the 1,000th point of her career.

Smart recorded 26 points, five rebounds, and three assists in a 86-77 win versus Urbana. She came back with 24 points, eight boards, and three assists during a 83-67 victory at Ohio Dominican.

Smart shot 66.7 percent from the field for the week and made 14-of-17 free throws for 82.4 percent. She added two steals and a blocked shot. Smart is the fastest CU women’s player to reach 1,000 career points needing just 58 games to accomplish the feat.

(January 2-8)
Cassie Hannah, Shawnee State
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Shawnee State forward Cassie Hannah (Piketon, OH) is the AMC women’s basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-8 senior averaged 20 points, 7.5 rebounds, and four assists to lead the Bears to a pair of AMC South Division road victories.

Hannah totaled 19 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in a 78-77 overtime victory at Urbana. Her three-pointer at the buzzer sent the game into the extra session which Shawnee State ultimately won with another buzzer beater. She also had 21 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in a 76-62 decision at Tiffin.

For the week, Hannah shot 56 percent from the field overall, hit 4-of-7 three pointers for 57 percent, and converted 86 percent of her free throws. She also had five steals and a blocked shot.

(December 26 - January 1)
Germany Jackson, Daemen
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Daemen guard Germany Jackson (Buffalo, NY) has been selected the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week.

Jackson, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, totaled 15 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and six steals in a 74-68 victory over NAIA Division II No. 11 Cardinal Stritch. She also had 18 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals during a 78-61 win versus Virginia Intermont. Both games were played at the Grand Canyon Classic in Arizona. For the week, Jackson shot 60 percent from the field and made 3-of-8 free throws.

Ashley Lane, Tiffin
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Tiffin forward Ashley Lane (Milford, MI) is the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week.

Lane, a six-foot sophomore, scored 18 points to lead the Dragons to a 79-70 victory at NAIA Division II No. 12 Saint Francis IN. She made 6-of-11 shots from the field and was 6-for-7 at the charity stripe. Lane added six rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals.

Tara Walker, Shawnee State
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Shawnee State center Tara Walker (Hillsboro, OH) has been selected the AMC Player of the Week in women’s basketball. The six-foot junior led the Bears to two South Division victories by averaging 21 points and eight rebounds per game.

Walker produced a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds in a 82-65 win at Walsh. She had 26 points, four rebounds, and three blocks in a 60-48 decision over Malone. Walker made 21-of-27 shots from the field for 78 percent and totaled four blocks with three steals.

Judy Wright, Roberts Wesleyan
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Roberts Wesleyan guard Judy Wright (Syracuse, NY) is the AMC women’s basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-7 junior averaged 29 points, 6.3 steals, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists in the Raiders’ 3-0 week.

Wright poured in 38 points, including the game-winning basket with three seconds left, to go along with eight steals in a 80-78 win over Daemen that ended the Lady Wildcats’ 20-game AMC North Division winning streak. She came back with 34 points, seven rebounds, and seven steals in a 74-63 conference win against Point Park. Wright finished her week with 15 points, five assists, and four steals in a 87-54 romp past Michigan-Dearborn.

For the week, Wright shot 48.5 percent from the field overall and 39 percent outside the arc. She hit 14-of-16 free throws for 87.5 percent.

(November 28 - December 4)
Brittany Smart, Cedarville
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville wing Brittany Smart (Springfield, OH) has been selected the AMC women’s basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-9 sophomore averaged 22.3 ppg and 7.7 rpg in leading the unbeaten and NAIA Division II No. 2 Lady Jackets to three more victories.

Smart scored 25 points in an 88-75 win versus AMC South Division foe Rio Grande; netted 11 points during an 81-59 decision over Finlandia in the first game of the Cardinal Stritch Invitational; and then tallied a double-double of 31 points and 10 rebounds in a 92-86 win over the host and No. 17 Wolves in the championship game.

For the week, Smart shot 56 percent from the field overall, made 5-of-6 three-pointers for 83 percent, and hit 16-of-20 free throws for 80 percent. She added eight assists and five steals.

Judy Wright, Roberts Wesleyan
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Roberts Wesleyan guard Judy Wright (Syracuse, NY) is the AMC women’s basketball Player of the Week. She posted a double-double of 37 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Raiders to a 87-77 win versus Notre Dame in their AMC North Division opener.

Wright, a 5-foot-7 junior, made 16-of-24 shots from the field including a 1-for-3 effort from outside the arc. She was also 4-for-5 at the charity stripe. Wright, who leads the AMC in scoring and steals, added five assists and four steals in the game.

Amanda Blazetic, Notre Dame
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Notre Dame post Amanda Blazetic (Eastlake, OH) has been named the AMC women’s basketball Player of the Week. She averaged 24 ppg and was named MVP of the Greater Cleveland Classic after leading the Falcons to a pair of wins and the tournament championship.

Blazetic, a 5-foot-10 senior, scored 19 points in a 84-49 win versus Oberlin. She racked up 29 points and 10 rebounds in a 71-62 decision over Case Western Reserve in the title game. Blazetic made 21-of-26 shots from the field for 81 percent in the two games and shot 60 percent at the line. She added four steals and two blocked shots.

(November 7-13)
Brittany Smart, Cedarville
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville wing Brittany Smart (Springfield, OH) has been named the first AMC women's basketball Player of the Week for the 2004-05 season. The 5-foot-9 sophomore averaged 19.3 points and 9.0 rebounds to lead the NAIA Division II No. 2 Lady Jackets to three more wins.

Smart produced a double-double of 15 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and five steals in a 103-32 win versus Ursuline. She tallied 24 points and nine rebounds in a 89-50 victory over NCAA Division II Saint Joseph’s IN in the first game of the Huntington Invitational. She ended her week with 19 points, five boards, and five assists in a 98-51 decision over the host school in the championship game and was tabbed Tournament MVP.

Smart shot 66 percent from the field overall, made 2-of-3 shots from outside the arc, and converted both of her free throws. She added 13 assists and nine steals.
