ZOAR, Ohio (10.18.2004) - Walsh University successfully defended its AMC/NAIA Region IX women's golf championship at the Zoar Village Golf Course in cold and wet conditions. The Cavaliers, under the direction of AMC Coach of the Year Karley Mohler, advance to the NAIA National Championship which will be played on May 17-20, 2005 at the Blackhorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind.

Walsh finished with a 361 total which was seven shots better than runner-up Malone. There were eight schools represented in the 18-hole tournament. Malone's Heather Grovemiller also earned a national tournament berth after capturing medalist honors with an 84. She won the title on the first playoff hole after tying for the top spot with Tiffin's Kelly Rethman.

This was the first time for the women's golf tournament to be played in the fall in the event's brief three-year history. Tiffin was a winner in the spring of 2003 and Walsh was the next champion in May, 2004.
