2006 Players of the Week

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Saint Vincent catcher Danny Consuegra (Damascus, MD) and Walsh pitcher Andy Schon (Akron, OH) are the AMC baseball Players of the Week.
Consuegra, a 5-foot-8 senior, batted .632 to lead the Bearcats to a 4-2 week. He recorded 12 hits in 19 at bats with six doubles, a grand slam, and nine RBI's. Consuegra scored five runs and finished with a 1.105 slugging percentage.
Schon, a six-foot junior righthander, tossed a complete-game two-hitter to blank AMC South Division champion Ohio Dominican, 1-0. He struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Mike McCarthy, Seton Hill, Tiffin (position)
Ryan Vaughn, Ohio Dominican (pitcher)
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Seton Hill third baseman Mike McCarthy (Pittsburgh, PA) and Ohio Dominican pitcher Ryan Vaughn (Youngstown, OH) have been chosen the AMC baseball Players of the Week.
McCarthy, a 5-foot-10 freshman, led the Griffins to a 7-0 week by hitting .739 with 17 hits in 23 at bats. He produced one streak of reaching base safely 18 consecutive times which included a stretch of 14 hits in a row. McCarthy had seven doubles, five RBI's, 15 runs scored, five walks, and seven steals.
Vaughn, a 6-1 junior, was 2-0 with a 0.63 ERA in three appearances on the mound for ODU. He tossed complete-game victories against Shawnee State and Rio Grande. Vaughn allowed one earned run in 14 1/3 innings for the week with 10 strikeouts.

Jarrod Limbach, Urbana (position)
Mike Laughlin, Mount Vernon Nazarene (pitcher)
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Urbana third baseman Jarrod Limbach (Indianapolis, IN) and Mount Vernon Nazarene pitcher Mike Laughlin (Mogadore, OH) are the AMC baseball Players of the Week.
Limbach, a 6-foot-1 junior, batted .727 to lead the Blue Knights to a 3-1 week. He had eight hits in 11 at bats with two doubles, two home runs, and 10 RBI's. He scored six runs, walked five times, and stole a base. Limbach posted a 1.455 slugging percentage for the week.
Laughlin, a 6-5 junior righthander, struck out 11 and walked two in a 7-3 victory at Cedarville. Pitching for the first time in three weeks, he went the first five innings and did not allow a hit. Laughlin, who hurled a five-inning no hitter at Cedarville last year, fanned six consecutive batters in one stretch.

Chris Smith, Ohio Dominican (pitcher)
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Tiffin outfielder Paul Robbins (West Chester, OH) and Ohio Dominican pitcher Chris Smith (Chesterton, IN) are the AMC baseball Players of the Week.
Robbins, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, batted .538 in six games for the Dragons. He recorded 14 hits in 26 at bats with six doubles, a triple, 12 runs batted in, and six runs scored. He hit safely in every game including five contests of two or more hits.
Smith, a 6-3 freshman, tossed a complete-game five-hitter in a 1-0 victory at Mount Vernon Nazarene. He struck out four batters and walked one.

Richey Burgos, Mount Vernon Nazarene (position)
Derek Koogler, Cedarville (pitcher)
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene third baseman Richey Burgos (Ponce, Puerto Rico) and Cedarville pitcher Derek Koogler (Vandalia, OH) are the AMC baseball Players of the Week.
Burgos, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, batted .769 to lead MVNU to a 3-1 record against Tiffin. He was 10-for-13 at the plate with three doubles, two homers, and six runs batted in. Burgos also walked twice and scored five runs.
Koogler, a 5-8 freshman righthander, was 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA in two appearances for Cedarville. He allowed one earned run over six innings in a starting role of a 4-1 win versus Indiana Wesleyan. Koogler tossed three scoreless innings with three strikeouts at Ohio Dominican to earn the victory in a 7-6 decision in nine innings.

Trent Spellman, Urbana (position)
Kyle Lynn, Walsh (pitcher)
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Urbana DH/outfielder Anthony Iacovone (Bellbrook, OH) and Seton Hill pitcher Matt Nelson (Monongahela, PA) are the AMC baseball Players of the Week.
Iacovone, a six-foot junior, paced Urbana to a 5-2 week by posting a .545 batting average. He had 12 hits in 22 at bats with a double, a triple, three home runs, and 13 RBI's.
Nelson, a 5-10 sophomore, did not allow a run while going 2-0 in two appearances. He came on in relief to nab a 2-1 victory against Point Park in an AMC North Division game. Nelson finished the week with a complete-game 1-0 victory over NCAA Division II Indiana PA in which he allowed four hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks.

Trent Spellman, Urbana (position)
Kyle Lynn, Walsh (pitcher)
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Urbana outfielder Trent Spellman (Grove City, OH) and Walsh pitcher Kyle Lynn (Massillon, OH) are the first AMC Players of the Week for the 2006 baseball season.
Spellman, a 5-foot-8 junior, batted .750 to lead Urbana to a 4-0 week. He recorded nine hits in 12 at bats with three doubles and seven runs scored. He walked twice and also stole a base for the Blue Knights, 13-8 overall, who have already nearly doubled last season's win total of seven.
Lynn, a 6-1 junior, tossed a complete-game one-hitter for Walsh in a 4-0 win versus AMC North Division foe Saint Vincent. He struck out seven batters with one walk in seven innings pitched. Lynn had a perfect game in tact until two outs in the 6th inning.
