2005-06 Players of the Week
(Feb. 20-26)
Mugabe Thomas, Cedarville
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville forward Mugabe Thomas (Kingston, Jamaica) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-4 senior averaged 23 points and 17 rebounds to power the Yellow Jackets into the AMC/NAIA Qualifying Tournament championship game.
Thomas had 29 points and 16 rebounds as Cedarville avenged two regular season losses to Urbana with an 84-76 victory in the tournament opener. He exploded for 17 points and 18 rebounds during a 119-93 semifinal win at Point Park.
Thomas, who is one point shy of 2,000 for his career, shot 50 percent from the field and 75 percent at the free throw line. He added eight assists, three blocks, and three steals.

Ben Falkenberg, Mount Vernon Nazarene
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene guard Ben Falkenberg (Wadsworth, OH) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-11 freshman averaged 27 points per game to help the NAIA Division II No. 15 ranked Cougars extend their winning streak to eight in a row with two more wins.
Falkenberg netted a career-high 32 points in a 100-94 shootout over Malone and then fired in 22 points during a 96-74 win versus Urbana. He made 19-of-30 field goals for 63 percent, hit 9-of-18 three-pointers for 50 percent, and was 7-of-9 at the charity stripe for 78 percent. He added four assists ,three rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot.

Andrew Thompson, Mount Vernon Nazarene
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene guard Andrew Thompson (Mount Vernon, OH) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The six-foot senior totaled 40 points to lead the NAIA Division II No. 19 Cougars to a pair of victories against AMC South Division foes who had beaten them earlier in the season.
Thompson netted 13 points with three assists in an 81-74 overtime victory at Tiffin. He buried six three-pointers en route to 27 points in a 72-62 decision over Ohio Dominican.
Thompson shot 61 percent from the field on 14-for-23 accuracy, knocked down 9-of-15 shots from beyond the arc for 60 percent, and converted 3-of-4 free throws for 75 percent. He contributed five assists, three rebounds, and three steals.

Antonio Davis, Urbana
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Urbana forward Antonio Davis (Columbus, OH) has been named the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. He was also selected the NAIA Division II National Player of the Week. The 6-foot-6 senior averaged 32.5 points and 12 rebounds per game while leading the Blue Knights to a pair of victories.
Davis poured in a career-high 36 points to go along with 11 rebounds in a 91-84 win versus Shawnee State. He added 29 points and 13 boards during an 83-72 decision over Tiffin.
Davis hit 22-of-42 shots from the field for 52 percent, dropped in 2-of-6 three-pointers, and converted 19-of-24 free throws for 79 percent. He contributed two blocked shots and one assist.

Kyle McDermott, Geneva
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Geneva center Kyle McDermott (Jamestown, NY) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-7 junior averaged 26 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Golden Tornadoes split games against the top two teams in the AMC North Division.
McDermott began the week with 24 points and six rebounds in a 76-73 setback to Seton Hill. He bounced back with 26 points and nine boards during a 92-77 win versus NAIA Division II No. 24 Daemen.
For the week, McDermott made 19-of-26 shots from the field for 73 percent and 14-of-16 free throws for 88 percent. He added three blocked shots and an assist.

Brian Montanaro, Daemen
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Daemen forward Brian Montanaro (Liverpool, NY) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-5 senior averaged 26 points and 5.5 rebounds to lead the NAIA Division II No. 25 Wildcats to a pair of victories.
Montanaro made 10-of-12 field goals and scored 26 points in an 86-58 win versus Houghton. He added another 26-point performance with eight rebounds during a 75-63 victory over Saint Vincent.
For the week, Montanaro was 18-of-25 from the floor for 72 percent, hit 5-of-10 shots outside the arc, and converted 11-of-14 free throws for 79 percent. He contributed 11 rebounds, six assists, and one steal.

Jerome Pierce, Notre Dame
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Notre Dame guard Jerome Pierce (Toledo, OH) has been named the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-8 sophomore exploded for a school-record 46 points and set two other marks in the Falcons' 96-88 setback to host Saint Vincent.
Pierce was 16-for-25 from the field which included a school and AMC record 12 three-point field goals in 16 attempts. He made both of his free throws to go along with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. The 46 points tied the second-highest single-game total for an AMC contest and was just one point shy of the record.

Chivas Whipple, Point Park
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Point Park guard Chivas Whipple (Youngstown, OH) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-1 freshman exploded for a career-high 38 points in a 90-72 victory at AMC North Division foe Notre Dame.
Chivas buried 16-of-24 shots from the field including 3-of-4 three-pointers. He made all three of his free throws, grabbed nine rebounds, came up with six steals, and handed out four assists.

Haze Massey, Ohio Dominican
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Dominican guard Haze Massey (Lorain, OH) has been named the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-4 senior averaged 20.5 points per game in leading the Panthers to a pair of road victories in North Carolina.
Massey totaled 24 points and five steals in a 95-78 win at Guilford, and then had 17 points and five rebounds in a 51-48 decision at Greensboro. For the week, he shot 56 percent from the field overall, hit 5-of-6 three-pointers, and knocked down 6-of-7 free throws. He added nine rebounds, five steals, four assists, and four blocks.

Jeff Street, Saint Vincent
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Saint Vincent forward Jeff Street (Niagara Falls, NY) has been chosen the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-7 senior racked up 17 points and 19 rebounds in a 76-73 victory at Wilberforce.
Street was 6-for-15 from the field and 5-for-6 at the line. He handed out two assists with two steals as the Bearcats rallied from a 10-point deficit to pull out the win.

Jerome Pierce, Notre Dame
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Notre Dame point guard Jerome Pierce (Toledo, OH) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-8 sophomore averaged 26.0 points per game to lead the Falcons to a 2-1 week.
Pierce totaled 26 points, nine assists, and six steals in an 89-77 win versus Faith Baptist; scored 20 points in a 66-54 victory over Concordia MI which avenged a 28-point loss to the Cardinals just 10 days earlier; and then hit eight three-pointers and netted 32 points in a 71-64 setback to Missouri Valley.
For the week, Pierce shot 45 percent from the field overall, hit 15-of-33 treys for 45 percent, and knocked down 13-of-14 free throws for 93 percent. He added 15 assists, 12 rebounds, and 11 steals.

Chivas Whipple, Point Park
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Point Park guard Chivas Whipple (Youngstown, OH) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week.
Whipple, a 6-foot-1 freshman, registered his seventh double-double of the season with 27 points and 12 rebounds in an 82-73 victory over AMC North Division foe Roberts Wesleyan. He made 10-of-17 shots from the field overall, hit 1-of-3 three-pointers, and converted 6-of-7 free throws. He also added two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot for the Pioneers, who have won three straight and five of their last six.

Antonio Davis, Urbana
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Urbana forward Antonio Davis (Columbus, OH) has been selected the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-6 senior averaged 23.7 points and 9.3 rebounds in three victories for the Blue Knights.
Davis scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds in an 80-74 upset win over AMC South Division foe Mount Vernon Nazarene. He followed that effort with back-to-back double-doubles at the Central State Classic. Davis had 21 points and 10 boards in an 82-76 decision over the host NCAA Division II Marauders, and then tallied 26 points and 10 rebounds in a 92-68 victory against Illinois Tech.
For the week, Davis shot 47 percent from the field and 68 percent at the line. He added five steals, two assists, and a blocked shot.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville forward Mugabe Thomas (Kingston, Jamaica) has been selected the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week for the second straight time. The 6-foot-4 senior led the NAIA Division II No. 5 Yellow Jackets to two more victories by averaging 29.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.
Thomas registered a career-high 32 points with 13 rebounds in a 98-74 AMC South Division victory at Malone. He added 26 points and 10 boards in an 80-64 win versus No. 22 and previously unbeaten Taylor.
For the week, Thomas made 22-of-39 field goals for 56 percent, 8-of-17 three-pointers for 47 percent, and 6-of-7 free throws for 86 percent. He contributed five steals, four blocks, and two assists.

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville forward Mugabe Thomas (Kingston, Jamaica) is the AMC men's basketball Player of the Week. He paced the NAIA Division II No. 5 Yellow Jackets to a pair of wins by averaging 26.5 points and 17.5 rebounds per game.
Thomas, a 6-foot-4 senior, exploded for career-highs of 30 points and 20 rebounds in an 82-57 win versus Saint Vincent. He came back with 23 points and 15 boards during a 75-61 victory against No. 12 Seton Hill. Thomas shot 53 percent from the field and 62 percent at the charity stripe.

Ben Falkenberg, Mount Vernon Nazarene
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene freshman Ben Falkenberg (Wadsworth, OH) is the first AMC men's basketball Player of the Week for the 2005-06 season.
Falkenberg, a 5-foot-11 freshman, led the Cougars to a 3-0 week by averaging 19.3 points per game while coming off the bench in each contest. He made 21-of-32 shots from the field for 66 percent, drained 11-of-19 treys for 58 percent, and converted 83 percent of his free throws on a 5-for-6 accuracy. Falkenberg added nine rebounds, nine assists, three steals, and a blocked shot.
