AMC Playoff Structure and Tiebreakers
The American Mideast Conference basketball playoff structure and tiebreakers are set by the coaches in the AMC Guidelines and approved by the AMC Athletic Directors Council.
NAIA Division II National Tournament Bids
The American Mideast Conference is awarded three automatic berths to the national
tournament and they are given to the following teams:
(1) North Division regular season champion
(2) South Division regular season champion
(3) Winner of post-season AMC Qualifying Tournament which is an 8-team, single-elimination
tournament consisting of teams who finish in positions 2 through 5 in both the
North and South Division regular season standings.
AMC Championship Game
Feb. 25, 2006 - North Division champion at South Division champion, 7:30 p.m.
AMC/NAIA Division II Qualifying Tournament
- Feb. 21, 25, 28, 2006 (BRACKET)
(Tournament field consists of teams finishing in positions 2 through 5 in each
division in regular season standings.)
First Round - Tue., Feb. 21
North #4 at North #1; North #3 at North #2; South #4 at South #1;
South #3 at South #2
Semifinals - Sat., Feb. 25 (higher seed hosts respective game*)
Championship - Tue., Feb. 28 (higher seed hosts*)
(* If a tie exists between two seeded teams, the North Division school will
host)
Tiebreakers
The tiebreakers involving two teams for team selection and seeding
for the AMC/NAIA Division II Qualifying Tournament are:
1. Head-to-head competition.
2. Record against teams in order of conference divisional finish.
3. Coin flip administered by the AMC Commissioner.
The tiebreakers involving three or more
teams for team selection and seeding for the AMC/NAIA Division II Qualifying
Tournament are:
1. Head-to-head competition (best W-L percentage in games among the teams).
2. Record against teams in order of conference divisional finish.
3. Coin flip administered by the AMC Commissioner.
