2007 Players of the Week

Mike Bruno, Geneva (position)
Nate Chau, Rio Grande (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Geneva outfielder Mike Bruno (New Castle, PA) and Rio Grande pitcher Nate Chau (Lockbourne, PA) have been named the AMC baseball Players of the Week.

Bruno, a 5-foot-10 senior, batted .700 to lead Geneva to a four-game sweep over Point Park and the school's first-ever AMC North Division title. He was 7-for-10 at the plate with two doubles, two homers, and three runs batted in.

Chau, a 6-1 senior lefthander, tossed a complete-game four-hitter to beat Shawnee State, 5-0. He struck out five and walked one in seven innings.

Troy Richeson, Malone (position)
Levi Curry, Mount Vernon Nazarene (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Malone outfielder Troy Richeson (Minerva, OH) and Mount Vernon Nazarene pitcher Levi Curry (Mount Vernon, OH) have been named the AMC baseball Players of the Week.

Richeson, a 5-foot-10 junior, hit .571 to lead Malone to a 3-3 week. His highlight was going 6-for-6 with a pair of doubles during a twinbill sweep at AMC North Division leader Geneva. Richeson's RBI single in the 7th inning gave the Pioneers a 2-1 win in the opener. He also totaled five steals and three walks during the week.

Curry, a six-foot junior lefthander, tossed a complete-game three-hitter to beat Rio Grande, 3-1. He struck out a career-high 10 batters with no walks.

Josh Estep, Mount Vernon Nazarene (position)
Matt Koblens, Ohio Dominican (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene shortstop Josh Estep (Gahanna, OH) and Ohio Dominican pitcher Matt Koblens (Westerville, OH) have been selected the AMC baseball Players of the Week.

Estep, a six-foot sophomore, batted .667 during MVNU's 5-1 week. He registered 12 hits in 18 at bats with four doubles, a triple, and 10 runs batted in. Estep walked three times and scored nine runs while extending his hitting streak to nine straight.

Koblens, a 5-10 senior, did not allow a run while going 2-0 in two appearances for NAIA No. 13 Ohio Dominican. He struck out six batters without a walk and gave up four hits in six innings during a 2-0 victory at Shawnee State. Koblens also spun a five-inning one-hitter in an 11-0 win versus Rio Grande.

Jonathan Kountis, Ohio Dominican (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Geneva outfielder Mike Bruno (New Castle, PA) and Ohio Dominican pitcher Jonathan Kountis (Akron, OH) are the AMC baseball Players of the Week.

Bruno, a 5-foot-10 senior, hit .474 to guide Geneva to a 5-0 week including four AMC North Division victories. He was 9-for-19 at the plate with a double, triple, home run, and eight RBI's. Bruno scored four runs, walked three times, and stole three bases.

Kountis, a 6-3 freshman, tossed a complete-game five-hitter to beat Mount Vernon Nazarene, 1-0, in AMC South Division play. He struck out eight and walked one while extending his scoreless inning streak to 23 straight with his third straight AMC shutout.

Ross Yoder, Mount Vernon Nazarene (position)
Randall Scott, Shawnee State (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene second baseman Ross Yoder (Berlin, OH) and Shawnee State pitcher Randall Scott (Portsmouth, OH) are the AMC baseball Players of the Week.

Yoder, a 5-foot-9 junior, went 5-for-8 in a doubleheader sweep over Walsh. He cracked two home runs and a double with four runs scored and five RBI's.

Scott, a 5-10 sophomore, tossed a complete-game no-hitter in a 4-0 victory over Urbana in an AMC South Division contest. He struck out one batter in seven innings for the Bears.

(March 26 - April 1)
Brandon Turner, Mount Vernon Nazarene (position)
Mike Laughlin, Mount Vernon Nazarene (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene teammates Brandon Turner (Lucasville, OH) and Mike Laughlin (Mogadore, OH) are the AMC baseball Players of the Week. They guided the Cougars to a 5-1 week including a 3-1 AMC South Division record.

Turner, a 5-foot-11 junior outfielder, batted .500 in four games played with three multi-hit games. He had seven hits in 14 at bats with a double, four RBI's, and two walks.

Laughlin, a 6-5 senior righthander, was 1-0 in two appearances and did not allow a run. He struck out 10 and tossed a complete-game two-hitter to beat Tiffin, 1-0.

(March 19-25)
Josh Estep, Mount Vernon Nazarene (position)
Chris Smith, Ohio Dominican (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene shortstop Josh Estep (Gahanna, OH) and Ohio Dominican pitcher Chris Smith (Chesterton, IN) have been selected the AMC baseball Players of the Week.

Estep, a six-foot sophomore, paced MVNU to a 6-4 week by hitting .425 with three doubles, two home runs, and nine RBI's. He tallied 17 hits in 40 at bats and scored nine runs. Estep reached base in every game and registered two or more hits in 7-of-10 outings.

Smith, a 6-3 sophomore righthander, tossed a complete-game three-hitter to blank Urbana, 7-0, in an AMC South Division game. He struck out two and walked two in seven innings for ODU, ranked No. 24 in the NAIA.

Phil Franks, Ohio Dominican (position)
Jaeson Hudnall, Urbana (pitcher)

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Dominican first baseman Phil Franks (Hilliard, OH) and Urbana pitcher Jaeson Hudnall (Carlisle, OH) are the AMC baseball Players of the Week.

Franks, a 6-foot-3 senior, batted .500 to pace ODU to a 6-1 week. He had 14 hits in 28 at bats with two doubles, a triple, three homers, and 14 runs batted in. Franks scored nine runs and posted a .964 slugging percentage.

Hudnall, a 6-5 sophomore righthander, tossed a complete-game four-hitter in a 1-0 victory at Cedarville in Urbana's AMC South Division opener. He struck out four batters and walked one.
