2006-07 Players of the Week


(Feb. 5-11)
Joanna Patalano, Roberts Wesleyan
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Roberts Wesleyan guard Joanna Patalano (Rochester, NY) has been chosen the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-8 senior averaged 19 points per game to lead the Raiders to a 3-0 week.

Patalano opened with 23 points in a 77-71 win versus Point Park in a contest in which she made 17-of-20 free throws to tie the AMC record for most free throws made in a game. She netted 14 points in a 53-50 decision over NCAA Division II Seton Hill and finished her week with 20 points and four assists during a 65-62 victory against Geneva.

For the week, Patalano shot 52 percent from the field and made 28-of-34 free throws for 82 percent. She totaled 12 rebounds, five assists, and one steal.

(Jan. 29 - Feb. 4)
Brittany Smart, Cedarville
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville guard Brittany Smart (Springfield, OH) has been selected the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. She was also tabbed the NAIA Division II National Player of the Week for the third time this season. The 5-foot-9 senior averaged 32 points per game while becoming the all-time leading scorer in NAIA Division II history with her performance in two victories for the No. 5 ranked Lady Jackets.

Smart had 23 points with four rebounds and five assists in a 79-45 victory at Wilberforce. She set the record during an 88-74 win versus Shawnee State in which she totaled 41 points, seven boards, and five assists. She increased her career point total to 2,974 to break the old NAIA Division II mark of 2,965.

For the week, Smart made 25-of-40 shots from the field for 62 percent, drained 8-of-11 three-pointers for 73 percent, and converted 6-of-7 free throws for 86 percent. She also came up with three steals.

Brittany Smart, Cedarville
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville guard Brittany Smart (Springfield, OH) is the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-9 senior averaged 32 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in leading the NAIA Division II No. 7 Lady Jackets to two more wins.

Smart had 32 points, eight boards, four assists, and three steals in a 76-63 win versus Mount Vernon Nazarene. She added 32 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in an 89-84 victory at Walsh.

For the week, Smart shot 48 percent from the field overall, 35 percent behind the arc, and 69 percent at the free throw line. She upped her career point total to 2,910 and is 55 points shy of the all-time NAIA Division II record of 2,965.

Krissy Haines, Ohio Dominican
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Dominican forward Krissy Haines (St. Mary's, OH) has been selected the AMC Player of the Week in women's basketball. The 5-foot-9 junior averaged 21.5 points and 18 rebounds per game in two victories to help the Panthers climb back into a first-place tie in the AMC South Division.

Haines piled up 23 points, 17 rebounds, and three steals in a 92-72 win versus Mount Vernon Nazarene. She added 20 points, 19 boards, and three assists in a 78-70 decision over Urbana. Haines shot 42 percent from the field, 73 percent at the line, and tacked on four assists with five steals.

Germany Jackson, Daemen
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Daemen guard Germany Jackson (Buffalo, NY) is the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-10 senior led the NAIA Division II No. 22 Lady Wildcats to a 3-0 week by averaging 22.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

Jackson hit for 21 points with seven rebounds in an 83-67 victory at Houghton; she totaled 30 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists in an 81-74 decision over defending AMC North Division champion Notre Dame; and tallied 16 points, five boards, and three steals during a 90-40 non-conference blowout of Myers.

For the week, Jackson made 29-of-39 shots from the field for 74 percent and 8-of-13 free throws for 62 percent. She also recorded 11 assists and six steals.

Brittany Smart, Cedarville
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville guard Brittany Smart (Springfield, OH) has repeated as the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. She was also named the NAIA Division II National Player of the Week for the second straight time. The 5-foot-9 senior averaged 40 points per game to lead the NAIA Division II No. 7 Lady Jackets to a pair of AMC South Division road victories.

Smart exploded for a season-high 42 points in an 85-67 win at Mount Vernon Nazarene and came right back with 38 points during an 83-69 victory at Tiffin. For the week, she hit 29-of-42 shots from the field for 69 percent, 9-of-15 outside the arc for 60 percent, and 13-of-14 free throws for 93 percent. Smart added seven rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.

(December 25-31)
Brittany Smart, Cedarville
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville guard Brittany Smart (Springfield, OH) is the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. She has also been chosen the NAIA National Player of the Week. The 5-foot-9 senior averaged 29.5 points per game as the NAIA Division II No. 7 Lady Jackets picked up two victories at the Warner Southern Classic in Florida.

Smart produced 27 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals in an 86-67 win over host Warner Southern. She also tallied a season-high 32 points, six boards, six assists, four blocks, and three steals in an 80-79 victory against No. 8 Bethel (Ind.), who entered the game with a 14-0 record.

For the week, Smart made 20-of-37 shots from the field for 54 percent. She hit 3-of-9 shots outside the arc for 33 percent and 16-of-21 free throws for 76 percent. Smart leads the AMC in scoring at 24.9 ppg.

Krissy Haines, Ohio Dominican
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Dominican forward Krissy Haines (St. Mary's, OH) has been selected the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-9 junior exploded for 32 points in a 73-68 victory over NAIA Division II No. 7 Cedarville to end the Lady Jackets' 72-game AMC South Division winning streak.

Haines made 11-of-17 shots from the field and 10-of-12 free throws to go along with eight rebounds and one steal. The outcome also ended Cedarville's 41-game AMC road winning streak. Ironically, Ohio Dominican was the last conference team to beat CU since winning 78-71 on the Lady Jackets' home court on Dec. 7, 2002.

Brittany Runner, Urbana
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Urbana center Brittany Runner (Bradford, OH) is the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. The six-foot senior averaged 21 points and 7.7 rebounds to lead the Blue Knights to a 2-1 week.

Runner opened with a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds in a 66-63 setback at West Virginia Tech. She bounced back with 29 points and six boards during a 90-48 win versus Myers before finishing the week with 24 points, four rebounds, and four assists in a 67-65 win at Brescia.

For the week, Runner shot 57 percent from the field and made 13-of-27 free throws for 48 percent. She totaled six assists, five steals, and a blocked shot.

Sam Riley, Urbana
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Urbana guard Sam Riley (Cincinnati, OH) has been named the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-4 senior poured in 32 points and came through in the clutch three times during an 88-86 triple overtime victory at Mount Vernon Nazarene.

Riley's basket with two seconds left in regulation forced the first overtime while her two free throws with four seconds left led to the second OT. She later hit the game-winning basket with 10 seconds left in the third overtime. Riley made 13-of-26 shots from the field plus all four of her free throws. She added six rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a blocked shot.

(November 27 - December 3)
Krissy Haines, Ohio Dominican
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Dominican forward Krissy Haines (St. Mary's, OH) is the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-9 junior averaged 24 points and 6.7 rebounds in three games for the Panthers.

Haines made 29-of-51 shots from the field for 57 percent, connected on the only three-pointer in which she attempted, and hit 13-of-19 free throws for 68 percent. She added seven assists and six steals. Haines' highlight was 27 points and 13 rebounds in a 70-65 AMC South Division victory over Tiffin.

Kelly Sawtelle, Carlow
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Carlow guard Kelly Sawtelle (Erie, PA) has been selected the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. She averaged 20.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists while leading the Celtics to the Ursuline Tournament title and she was named Tournament MVP.

Sawtelle, a 5-foot-5 junior, tallied 20 points and seven rebounds in a 71-65 overtime win versus Hiram. She added 21 points, six boards, and six assists during a 90-89 overtime victory against host Ursuline in the title game. Sawtelle shot 36 percent from the field overall and made 14-of-16 free throws for 88 percent.

Cara Shiplett, Malone
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Malone forward Cara Shiplett (Canal Fulton, OH) has been selected the AMC women's basketball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-10 junior posted three straight double-doubles to help the Pioneers remain unbeaten at 6-0.

Shiplett scored 10 points and pulled down 19 rebounds in a 51-41 victory over Wheeling Jesuit; netted 16 points with 12 boards during a 67-46 win versus Daemen; and had 12 points and 11 rebounds in a 69-58 decision against Geneva. She shot 55 percent from the field and made 14-of-18 free throws for 78 percent to go along with seven steals, six assists, and five blocked shots.

Jessica Wood, Ursuline
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ursuline guard Jessica Wood (Warren, OH) is the first AMC women's basketball Player of the Week for the 2006-07 season. The 5-foot-9 sophomore averaged 26 points and 10 rebounds per game to propel the Arrows to their first 2-0 start in school history.

Wood exploded for 30 points and 12 rebounds in a 73-69 victory over Walsh and added 22 points with eight boards during an 89-83 decision against Michigan-Dearborn. She shot 38 percent from the field and hit 20-of-26 free throws for 77 percent.
