MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Malone College coasted to a 32-stroke victory at the American Mideast Conference Men's Golf Championships on May 6-7 at the Apple Valley Golf Club. It was the fourth league title in the past five years for the Pioneers, who entered the tournament ranked 10th nationally in the NAIA.

Malone had just an eight-shot lead over eventual runner-up Shawnee State after two rounds of the 54-hole event, but the Pioneers dusted the field with a 298 team total over the final 18 holes which was 24 shots better than anyone else. Malone finished at 904 and was followed by Shawnee State (936), Mount Vernon Nazarene (957), Walsh (969), Urbana (972), Tiffin (981), and Cedarville (1,004).

Malone sophomore Josh Anderson put together scores of 78-73-72-223 to earn medalist honors by a three-shot margin. All five Pioneer players earned a spot on the nine-man All-AMC Team which includes the top seven finishers plus ties. Malone's Ken Hyland, who was named AMC Coach of the Year, now takes his squad to the NAIA Nationals on May 25-28 at the PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
